Our staff is lead by Matt Brown, S.E., a Licensed Structural Engineer in seven states. He has over 13 years of design experience and even longer experience in the preparation of construction drawings.
Matt is a graduate of Lawrence Technological University (Southfield, MI) with two bachelor’s degrees (B.S. Architecture, B.S. Civil Engineering) and a masters degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis on Structural.
Matt was previously employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and later by Harley Ellis Devereaux, the Detroit-based jumbo A/E firm. During these years as a design engineer he gained an enormous amount of experience in the design of commercial and industrial structures, including steel framed hospitals, concrete high rises, and manufacturing plants. Matt worked with a wide variety of materials and structure types, including design for vibration, and deep foundation design.
Matt was also employed for 9 years at the structural software company: RISA Technologies. At RISA he taught accredited courses on structural modeling and design, provided high level technical assistance on difficult structural problems, and provided guidance to RISA developers on how to implement new structural codes and features. This led Matt to become one of the most recognized structural software experts in the industry.
In addition to his structural analysis and design experience and expertise, Matt is also well versed in the preparation of construction drawings, especially with the use of BIM technology such as Autodesk Revit.
Kevin is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo (San Luis Obispo, CA) with a bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering.
At Cal Poly, Kevin had the pleasure of working with professors, who all have many years of design experience, and learned both the fundamentals of structural engineering and documentation of structural design. With each design class, Kevin used various design software such as RISA, Revit, AutoCAD, and MatLab to aide with his projects. Kevin’s senior project involved the collaboration of multiple disciplines (Architects, Construction Managers, Historians, Structural Engineers) and proposed a re-design of an existing old theater building in Tiburon, CA. Kevin explored the out of plane loading capacity of the existing studs, to support the lateral and new gravity loads on the building.
Kevin previously interned at a construction company where he gained knowledge of the entirety of the construction process. He also previously interned at an aeronautical engineering company specializing in aircraft parts. He now works under the close supervision of Matt Brown as he learns the practice and studies to become a Professional Engineer someday.
